Walking in the Covenant of Blessing
There Shall Be Showers of Blessing (Part 4)
“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God… that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you…”
— Deuteronomy 28:1–2 (NKJV)
Introduction
God never intended His children to live beneath His promises. From the very beginning of Scripture, we see that He is a covenant-keeping God who delights in blessing those who walk faithfully with Him. His covenant is not merely an agreement—it is a divine relationship established by His love, faithfulness, and grace.
Through Jesus Christ, believers have become heirs of God’s covenant promises. Yet, while the covenant has been established by God’s grace, we are called to walk daily in faith, obedience, and fellowship with Him in order to experience its fullness.
As we continue our July Theme Series, “There Shall Be Showers of Blessing,” let us discover what it truly means to walk in God’s covenant of blessing.
What Is God’s Covenant?
A covenant is a sacred agreement established by God.
Unlike human contracts that depend on changing circumstances, God’s covenant is built upon His unchanging character.
Hebrews 10:23 reminds us:
“He who promised is faithful.”
God’s promises remain secure because He never fails to keep His Word.
1. Jesus Established the New Covenant
The greatest blessing we have is found in Jesus Christ.
Through His death and resurrection, Jesus established a new covenant that brings forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life.
Luke 22:20 says:
“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.”
Because of Christ, we are no longer strangers to God’s promises—we are members of His family.
2. Faith Unlocks Covenant Blessings
God’s promises are received through faith.
Galatians 3:14 declares that the blessing of Abraham comes upon believers through Jesus Christ.
Faith is trusting God even before the evidence appears.
Every step of faith positions us to experience His supernatural provision.
3. Obedience Keeps Us Walking in the Covenant
God’s covenant is not sustained by perfection but by a heart that continually follows Him.
Obedience demonstrates our trust in God’s wisdom.
As we learned in our previous article, obedience positions us to enjoy God’s favor and direction.
Walking daily with God keeps us aligned with His purposes.
4. Live According to God’s Word
Psalm 119:105 says:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
God’s Word directs our decisions, shapes our character, and strengthens our faith.
Those who continually meditate upon Scripture build lives on a firm foundation.
5. Remain Connected to God Through Prayer
Prayer is not merely asking for blessings.
Prayer keeps our hearts connected to the One who blesses us.
Daily fellowship with God allows His peace, wisdom, and guidance to shape every area of life.
6. Be a Channel of Blessing
God never blesses us simply for our own benefit.
Genesis 12:2 reminds us:
“I will bless you… and you shall be a blessing.”
When we generously serve, forgive, encourage, and support others, we reflect God’s covenant love.
The covenant is meant to flow through us to bless the world.
Signs You Are Walking in the Covenant
A believer walking in God’s covenant demonstrates:
- Confidence in God’s promises.
- A consistent prayer life.
- Joy despite difficult circumstances.
- Faith instead of fear.
- Obedience to God’s Word.
- Love toward others.
- A desire to glorify Christ.
These are the fruits of a covenant relationship.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for establishing an everlasting covenant through Jesus Christ. Thank You that Your promises never fail and Your love never changes.
Teach me to walk daily in faith, obedience, humility, and complete dependence upon You.
Help me to remain faithful in every season and to become a channel of blessing wherever You lead me.
May my life continually reflect Your covenant love, bringing glory to Your holy name.
In Jesus’ mighty name,
Amen.
Conclusion
Walking in God’s covenant is not about striving to earn His favor—it is about living in daily fellowship with the God who has already demonstrated His love through Jesus Christ.
As we continue this journey of faith, let us remain steadfast, knowing that our Heavenly Father is faithful to fulfill every promise He has spoken.
May you continually walk in His covenant of blessing and experience His abundant grace, peace, favor, and provision every day.
